The bio-bibliographical register referring to the Archive of the Francke Foundations

The bio-bibliographical register, which was developed within the scope of various cataloguing projects supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) at present comprises about 73,000 names. For this purpose, a minimum standard for the recording of personal data was established, which is based on the Rules for Resourcenerschließung mit Normdaten in Archiven und Bibliotheken (RNAB), Frankfurt am Main 2019, as well as on the Gemeinsamen Normdatei (GND) of the German National Library.
From this collection, over 47,500 biographies from the period between 1400 and 1880 were made accessible in the Digital Collections and linked to personal information from the metadata and transcribed texts in the archival collections of the Francke Portal and the Manuscripts/Autographs collection.

Research

The tab Index of Persons calls up and lists all the names of persons included in the bio-bibliographic index in alphabetical order. Clicking on the name will list the person's biography. If the person's name is in the metadata of the archival collections or in transcribed texts of the digital collections, up to three associated titles are shown in short form with a preview image and sorted by date. If necessary, further titles can be called up via the button [VIEW ALL]. Clicking on a short title or the preview image leads to the complete display of the title if the person is listed in the metadata. If a person is not in the title record but in the transcribed text of a manuscript, a preview with the text excerpt is called up first. Clicking on this will take you to the display of the page on which the person in question appears. Please note that persons appearing in the metadata of documents that have been transcribed are only displayed via the title record. It is recommended to search for the person you are looking for in the transcribed text using a separate search query in the field "Search the document" .

Requesting your cooperation

The data contained in the biographies make no claims of being complete. On the contrary, the short biographies should be considered as an open project, which is to be continued by additional information and corrections. Therefore we are grateful for any information not included in the bio-bibliographical register. Please contact the archivist Dr. Jürgen Gröschl
