4. Bibliography of Publications
The database presented in this module is based on the book August Hermann Francke 1663-1727: Bibliographie seiner Schriften, edited by Paul Raabe and Almut Pfeiffer (Tübingen 2001; Hallesche Quellenpublikationen und Repertorien vol. 5). It lists ca. 1,700 bibliographical records of Francke's writings along with inventory certificates and extensive footnotes. This bibliography is to be enhanced by means of further data during the two-year duration of this project. First, by way of including the foreign-language publications of Francke’s writings not determined by Raabe and Pfeiffer and second, by referring to information on Francke’s writings available in a digital format. It will first and foremost refer to Francke writings that were digitised within DFG-funded projects for listing works published in the German speaking countries during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (VD 17 and VD 18).
Ca. 500 printed works preserved at the Francke Foundations’s Library will be presented in a digital format. They include:
- Printed works solely available in the Library of the Francke Foundations
- Printed works with a high probability of not being digitised by the VD-projects, not even in the long run
- Printed works in foreign languages (excluding Latin)
In certain cases digitised versions of these anthologies were linked to the bibliographical records of personal sermons. The reason is: the bibliography of Raabe/Pfeiffer also lists Francke’s sermons, which as yet have not been located as separate print although they appear in anthologies of sermons with their individual title page and have [thus] received a separate bibliographical record. Thumbnails indicate which digitised prints are available in the Portal. Reference data (links) to other printed works on Francke available in a digital format can be found below the bibliographical details which are continuously updated and completed.
Requesting your cooperation We would be very grateful if you could inform us of titles, especially concerning translations of Francke’s writings not yet included in Module 4. Please contact the librarian, Anke Mies, E-mail: miesfrancke-halle.de(at)
