Am 19.04.1767 Immatrikulation an der Universität in Halle, Theologiestudium. 1767 Informator an der deutschen Mädchenschule, April 1768 Informator an der lateinischen Schule in Halle. 28.10.1769-02.11.1770 Aufenthalt in Kopenhagen. Am 03.11.1769 als Missionar ordiniert. Am 13.06.1771 Ankunft in Tranquebar. Bis 1813 ebenda Missionar. Am 30.04.1795 Verleihung der Ehrendoktorwürde durch die Kaiserliche Leopoldina-Carolinische Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher. 1791 Präses der Gelehrten Gesellschaft in Tranquebar. 1777 Heirat mit Christiana Sophia Guldberg.
