Respected Sir,
Through the kindness of Mr. Gilbert
van der Smissen I have received your note, in which pur-
suant to my enquiries, you are pleased to inform us concerning
a bequest made to the Evangelical Congregation at Ebenezer
by their unknown but esteemed benefactor the late Col. v.
Degenfeld. You further state that the "Administration"
desire that the proceeds of the principle, amounting to 600 Reichsthaler
in Louis d’or à 5 Reichsthaler may be demanded as to value in medicines
and books. On laying your communication before the
Trustees, they desired me to enquire whether the principal
as well as the interest appertains to the Ebenezer Church
or whether the interest only is thus designated. We would
willingly comply with the wish that has been intimated
to take the specified amount in books and medicines, but
as we are adequately supplied with the former article
we must be allowed to dispense with this part of the
proposal. In regard to medicines, however, I have enclo-
sed a memorandum for myself and some friends //for// the
