thinking it his duty to imitate his gods, should like them venture to wander about nakel, corrupting the women in every village, the authorities that now bear rule in the country would seize hin and lock him up in jail, instead of building a temple to his honour. There are no people in India whose conduct is in all respects so bad as that of the Hindi gods. The Hinds themselves are better than their re­ligion. On the other hand, people who are as virtuous as Christ was, have never been seen in any country or in any age. This being the case, dear friends, should you not abandon a religion which is destitute of examples of virtue, and resolve to become imitators of Christ? The way of holi­ness trodden by Him is the way to heaven. To follow Him is to be trulywise.

Of all means of promoting rizhteonsness and goodness the principal Is the craee of God. It is through that grace alone, that men learn to desire to become truthful,

Just, and merciful; and whensoever they endeavour to be

just, and true, and merciful, their Father in heaven has compassion upon their weakness, and arants them His own help. Ie graciously bestows upon them the inspiration of Ils Holy Spirit to raise them up when they fall, to rouse and strengthen them when they faint, and to remove their impurities and make them holy. But how that inspiration 1s bestowed upon them, how it produces pure thoughts and good desires In their hearts, and how their hearts are thereby made holy and are filled with jovthese things are understood by true Christians, God's true children, alone. For this reason[ do not now fully enter upon this subject. Those considerations only are set forth in this

little book which all classes of persons can easily compreliend.
