and the commandment“ thou shalt not bear false witness,” has been taught them from their infancy. They learn also from the Bible that ¢ truth in the inward parts” is of all sacrifices the one which is most acceptable to God, and those of them who are pious believers in Christ receive*“ the Spirit of Truth.” Hence they have learnt as a class to despise lies and to become truthful and sincere. Their truthfulness is the source of their prosperity, and their Christianity is the source of their truthfulness.
The Bible says,“ By the fear of the Lord arc riches and honor; also,“ Rightousness exalteth a nation but sin is a reproach to any people;” and also** Them that honour me I will honor, but they who despise me shall be lightly esteemed;” and in accordance with these words we find that Christians are exalted to honor and that the followers of false religions are abased. Thus the rule which is recorded in the Bible and the rule which is exemplified in the world are not different, but
onc and the same.
From these considerations even the unlearned may conclude that Christianity is the only religion which has the approval of the true God, the ruler of the world. Of all religions Christianity is the only one which promotes education, civilisation, material prosperity and other temporal benefits; and hence all persons who have any desire for these benefits should abandon religions which are of no benefit or use, for this life or for
the next, and embrace the Christian religion.
You must not forget that the white men owe their prosperity to their Christianity, or fancy that it is unnecessary to embrace their religion, and that all that is necessary for you to dois to endeavour to share in their prosperity.
